I have a bad back, and tend to get muscle spasms as well as charlie horses in my calves.
When the spasms and cramping starts, I use the liquid Kava because it works faster on an empty stomach. I’ve been using Kava for years for this reason alone. Kava is a mild muscle relaxant.
This is one of the better brands I’ve tried, and it works very well for muscle spasms and cramps.
But Lord, does it taste icky.
I’m dinging it one star for the taste((shudder)). If I could take only a half star I would, but I can’t so it’s a whole star.
There must be something they could do about the taste. If I can get the capsules down before the spasms get too bad I prefer that, because you can’t taste the capsules. But if you need it to work in a hurry the liquid is the way to go.
The liquid goes to work in ten to fifteen minutes, the capsules take anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour to work. That may not sound like much time, but when you’re in pain it’s an eternity!
Kava is also good for those nights when I just can’t seem to get to sleep. If I’m too wound up to sleep I’ll take a dropper and a half, and before long I’m relaxed and ready to doze off.
Don’t use a lot of Kava if you use a lot of Acetaminophen(Tylenol), any other drug that is processed mainly by the liver (some drugs are processed by the liver more, and others by the kidneys more), or drink alcohol every day. Or even if you get drunk often.
That’s my .02 worth.

Very surprised at the potency of this, wish they would’ve had bigger bottles. I use a dropper full or so to get where I want to be. Add it to a half milk/half water mixture (cold) and thats all you really need. I usually swish it in my mouth because it is thought the enzymes in your mouth may activate the kavalactones. Pretty soon your mouth goes numb and you relax. Note that my dosage is not advised on the bottle. There are many dosages with the bottle for those curious.
Basically I’m trying to say this is worth it for those curious in an all around way.

Tincture provides more concentration for around $10. For $5 an extract is hardly worth it. You have to take in a lot more at an extract level to get the desired effect. It does mellow you out but you’ll go through a one ounce bottle very quickly as opposed to a tincture that you can get for $10. For double the price, you will get longer use out of a tincture (more concentrated).
